The South Louisville Community Center played host to a playground dedication on Saturday, July 30th. Christopher 2X and his Fight Crimes Against Children organization invited the community as well as dignitaries like Lt. Barry Wilkerson, the lead detective on the Cecil New case. The dedication celebrated the memory of Cesar Ivan Cano, the little boy slain by New. Also on hand, former assistant Commonwealth Attorney Jon Heck, the prosecutor on the New case and John Asher representing Churchill Downs where Cano’s mother, Rosalina, earned her living.
The organizers split the ceremony into two parts: one with the speakers inside and the second outside with a balloon release. 9 balloons went up in honor of what would have been Ivan’s 9th birthday.
