How did you beat the heat on Memorial Day Monday yesterday? I didn’t even bother. I made my peace with it and headed to Abbey Road on the River to cover the final day of it on the Belvedere for Metromix and the Courier-Journal. Peace and love abounded as well as music that you forgot was so good. Like when Axis, above, covered the Jimi Hendrix Experience. ‘Scuse me while I kiss the sky and all that.
And one of the more interesting stories occurred when I met newlyweds-to-be Brooke Jacob and KJ Hippenstel. They attended the event here in Louisville and they play to get married at Abbey Road on the River when it comes to Washington, D.C. Think of the stories they’ll tell their children about how they fell in love.
Later in the afternoon, Brooke even joined Hal Bruce on stage to sing a bit of Janis Joplin. No one complained about the heat that I can recall. The temperatures scorched us, we knew it and didn’t care. Find the preview gallery below and the full shoot here.
