I traveled to Lagrange earlier today for the Voice-Tribune for the 75th edition of the Greater Louisville Soapbox Derby, that childhood rite of passage where you get in a car and slide downhill to see who can get to the bottom the fastest. Michael DeWitt, above, gets in position for his heat.
Justin Jeseo and Anthony Thomas gave me smiles here, but at the end of the competition, trophies make it to mantles and the top two winners from this Soapbox Derby go on to the World Championships in Akron, Ohio in July.
To adults, the race captures to wonder of physics, mechanics and sportsmanship. To the kids, it could mean those things, but to kids, going fast in a race car probably fits in there, too, as evidenced by Gunnar Brown and Spencer Hunt running in their heat. See the preview gallery below and look for the full take in the Voice-Tribune and at Voice-Tribune.com.
