In the annual renewal of the Battle of the Bluegrass, conventional wisdom said that the University of Louisville Cardinals would come through as the odds on favorite over the University of Kentucky. Story lines popped up everywhere. Coach Rick Pitino had never beaten John Calipari since Cal came to Kentucky.Gorgui Dieng’s parents traveled from Senegal to Louisville to see their son play basketball for the first time. Dieng’s return to the lineup after a wrist injury. Drama came from all over. The Cards won the battle 80-77

My story about the game follows this link. I shot from near the Kentucky bench and that provided some insight. The entire bench displayed a very Pollyanna attitude. The Cats never fouled anyone while every Cardinal fouled their players every time the ball bounced if you heard them tell it. And Coach Cal displays less of a teacher mentality and more like a bully. When Nerlens Noel committed a goal tend, Cal pulled him out right away and said “Why do you do that every f@(&ing game.” We photogs just looked at each other and said “wow.” See some Cards/Cats photos below.
