The Valley Vikings had to go on the road last night. Like on…the…road. The Vikings traveled an hour down I-64 to visit the Anderson County Bearcats on the Bearcats homecoming night. As usual, Valley’s kids played their guts out and stayed with Anderson County before ultimately falling 20-0.
The visitors are still banged up from the injury bug and have added yet another new starting quarterback to their ranks, but the Vikings are a game bunch of guys. And when you see the defense, you know why. The stuffed the Bearcats ground attack at most turns, including a series of plays that included 2 straight quarterback sacks.
And the offense got moving. They didn’t put it in the end zone, but if not for a missed shoestring catch at the end of the first half, we might have been talking about a momentum shift which could have led to a Valley victory. One thing’s for sure. Anderson County thought they had an easy night, but they had to work to win that homecoming game. Next for Valley, they’re on the road at Fairdale on Friday night.
