Freelance photographers like me who used to rely on newspapers to provide photo opportunities used to enjoy the competition between the Courier-Journal and the Voice-Tribune. During those heady days you got to grab your camera and go. Just make it interesting and clickable.
So, I’ve been trying to figure out how to remind people that I’m a photographer. COVID-19 slowed business to a halt, as it has with many, many other businesses. And even before that, publications in Louisville ran out of money for freelance shutterbugs. Of course, that makes it difficult to survive as a creative.
Remember the twins Easton and Lucas? Their mom, Lauren, is a Realtor with Paul Semonin. After her family photo shoot, we talked about maybe doing some photos with her real estate partner Lindsey. Misty and I were lucky enough to work with them yesterday. Continue reading “SKETCHBOOK: Lauren & Lindsey Will Sell You A House”
Our weekend also included a commercial photo shoot at Misty’s old salon, Southern Comforts Salon & Spa on Dixie Highway. On Saturday, our friends Megan and Jonathon made the short trip to Old Louisville to get some photos with their three-month-old son Mason. So, as mentioned in my last post, I’ve been making photos of Whitney and Jaxon for a few years and so has Misty. But, if I’m not mistaken, this is the first time we’ve done them in Old Louisville. And I have to tell you, I love them and I love Old Louisville, so it’s a match made in heaven. Continue reading “SKETCHBOOK: Whitney & Jaxon in Old Louisville”
I don’t have any empirical evidence of this, but I can almost guarantee to have more social media likes and get a new follower or two based on the fact that I am publishing a photo of a pretty girl. Continue reading “SKETCHBOOK: Social Media Likes”
Because I’m the old guy, when Jaxon came over for his photo shoot and brought his dinosaur, the whole time, my head rang with, “Open the door/Get on the floor/Everybody walk the dinosaur.” Thankfully, I didn’t say it out loud. I think Jaxon would have just stared at me and tried to figure out what the heck was wrong with me. Continue reading “SKETCHBOOK: Walk the Dinosaur”
I’ve always found the term “giving away the bride” interesting. You know, the “who gives this bride to be joined in marriage.” Continue reading “SKETCHBOOK: Giving Away the Bride”
